Burt Sends Cardinals to GLIAC Semifinals with Overtime Winner

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team had to wait an extra day before stepping on the pitch to host Ohio Dominican in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference quarterfinal match-up, but the outcome would be well waited for as the Cardinals stopped the Panthers 2-1 in overtime on Thursday (Oct. 31).

Saginaw Valley (10-3-4) would open the scoring in the 20th minute when Annie Aubrey (Jackson, Mich.) beat two defender on top of the 18 to get free and blast a shot by the Ohio Dominican (10-6-3) keeper.  The Panthers would even the score in the 27th minute on a deflection off of a free kick.

Ohio Dominican would control the pace of the game for the first 25 minutes of the second half before the Saginaw Valley defensive pressure created several scoring opportunities in the final 15 minutes of the regulation.

Kelsey Burt (Marengo, Ohio) would give the Cardinals the win as she put away the game winner of off a pass from Aubrey 95th minute.  Burt would hit it home from the penalty kick spot after getting a cross from Aubrey.

With the win, Saginaw Valley advances to the semifinals of the GLIAC women's soccer at Grand Valley State University on Friday where they will play Michigan Tech at 4:00 PM.
