Porter Helps Lead SVSU to 2-1 Win on Senior Day

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team claimed a 2-1 "Senior Day" victory over Notre Dame (OH) today (Oct. 14) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest.

The Cardinals (7-2-4, 6-1-3 GLIAC) came ready to play in the rainy and sloppy conditions as Annie Aubrey (Jackson, Mich./Jackson HS) headed in the first goal on a high crossing assist from Charley Porter (Midland, Mich./Midland HS) in the 30th minute. Aubrey's goal was her team-leading seventh of the year and is fourth best in the GLIAC, while Porter leads the conference in assists with nine. The Cardinals would hold their 1-0 lead into halftime.

Notre Dame's Lauren Acker would find the back of the net to tie the game at the 65:07 minute mark.

Just one minute later Porter would net her fourth goal of the season off of an assist from Presley Tibbetts (Grandville, Mich./Grandville HS) to put Saginaw Valley back on top.  The goal would be all the Cardinals would need as the defense locked down the Falcons offense for the remainder of the contest to preserve the 2-1 victory.

Sophmore goalkeeper Laura Ivezaj (Rochester Hills, Mich./Rochester HS) grabbed her seventh win of the season as she stopped four of the five shots she faced on the afternoon.

SVSU will return back to action Oct. 19 at 2:00 PM when they travel to rival Northwood University.
