UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team defeated Northern Michigan University today (Oct. 7) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference contest at the SVSU Soccer Complex by a score of 5-0.
The Cardinals (5-2-4, 4-1-3 GLIAC) would light the scoreboard with the first of their five goals on the afternoon at the 26:55 mark on a header by Annie Aubrey (Jackson, Mich. / Jackson HS) off of a cross by Charley Porter (Midland, Mich. / Midland HS) from 30 yards out. Porter would pick up her second assist of the game in the 43rd minute when she hit Olivia Perrin (Cadillac, Mich. / Cadillac HS) with a cross that she was able to put home for the Cardinals second goal of the afternoon.
Saginaw Valley would keep the offense locked in as Shelby Wright (Fishers, Ind. / Fishers HS) gave the Cardinals the 3-0 advantage off of a feed from Shelby Thompson (Midland, Mich. / Midland Dow HS). A through ball by Lindsey Arnett (Portage, Mich. / Central HS) to Bailey Wysocki (Plainfield, Ill. / Central HS) would net a one-on-one goal in the 67th minute for SVSU. Kelsey Burt (Marengo, Ohio / Highland HS) would cap off the scoring for the Cardinals in the 71st minute after she beat the keeper on the left side from 18 out to give SVSU the 5-0 final.
The Cardinals will return to action on Friday (Oct. 12) when they host Lake Erie at the SVSU Soccer Complex at 2:00 PM.
