Cardinals Blank Pioneers in GLIAC Opener, 3-0

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team kicked off the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference schedule in style with a victory over Malone University today (Sept. 14) at the SVSU Soccer Complex.

The Cardinals (2-1-1) applied pressure on both sides of the field early and often in the first half. Saginaw Valley jumped on the scoreboard first with a goal from Annie Aubrey (Jackson, Mich.), her second of the season, off a pass from Presley Tibbetts (Grandville, Mich.) to gain the 1-0 edge at the 31st minute.

Just minutes later, Olivia Perrin (Cadillac, Mich.) kept the momentum going for the Cardinals as she capitalized with a header into the back of the net off a high crossing pass from Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.) to put SVSU up 2-0 at the 35:00 minute mark of the first half.

Saginaw Valley would enter the halftime intermission with a 2-0 advantage outshooting Malone by a 17-1 tally.

In the second half, the Lady Cardinals would keep the pedal to the floor going up 3-0 as Presley Tibbetts picked up a goal in her second consecutive contest on a 25-yard strike off a free kick to beat the Pioneer keeper. The Cardinals would go on to win their second game of the season with the shutout against the Pioneers.

Sophomore goalkeeper Laura Ivezaj (Rochester Hills, Mich.) earned her second win of the season (2-1-1) and first shutout.

The Cardinals will return to action on Sunday (Sept. 16) when they host the Cavaliers of Walsh University for a 12:00 PM start at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
