Cardinals Battle Rangers to a 2-2 Tie

SOMERS, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team played a tough Wisconsin-Parkside squad to a 2-2 tie today (Sept. 1).

Wisconsin-Parkside (1-0-1) would open the scoring at the 30:00 minute mark on a goal by Crystal Chalery.  The Cardinals (0-1-1) would respond just a minute later when Skylen Powell (Holt, Mich. / Holt HS) would feed Molly Bellairs (Linden, Mich. / Linden HS) allowing her to blast a laser past Ranger netminder Michelle Girard.

The action went back and forth for over 40 minutes before Lexie Brisson-Fast (Ferndale, Mich. / Ferndale HS) knocked home a rebound goal past the Ranger goalkeeper to put the Cardinals ahead 2-1. The initial shot and assist would come from the Cardinals' Charley Porter (Midland, Mich. / Midland HS).

However, with less than two minutes remaining in the match, Wisconsin-Parkside found the back of the net on a 30-yard chip shot from Brynn Darga over Cardinal goalkeeper Laura Ivezaj (Rochester Hills, Mich. / Rochester HS).  Ivezaj would stop five of the seven shots she faced on goal in the game.

Neither team would be able to capitalize during the overtime period as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Lady Cardinals will return to action in their 2012 home opener on Sept. 7th against rival Northwood at 2:00 PM.
