Saginaw Valley Downed by Michigan Tech. 3-0

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to Michigan Tech, 3-0 today (Oct. 23) in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contest.

Neither team would be able to find the back of the net in the first half of play ending the half in a 0-0 tie. The Huskies scored their first goal of the contest just four minutes into the second half giving them the 1-0 lead over the Cardinals. Michigan Tech extend its lead to 2-0 over Saginaw Valley when Alyssa Hynnek scored on a shot over the keepers head. The Huskies would add an insurance goal in the 87th minute to increase their lead to 3-0 that would allow them to go onto a victory over the Cardinals.

Senior Sam Echols (Wolverine Lake, Mich. / Walled Lake Central HS) placed two shots on net for the Cardinals, while goaltender Laura Ivezaj (Rochester, Mich.) saved six of the nine shots she faced in the contest.

With the loss the Cardinals fall to 6-7-2 overall on the season, and 5-7-2 in the GLIAC, while Michigan Tech improves to 7-8-1 overall on the season, and 5-8-1 in the GLIAC. Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Friday (Oct. 28) when they return home for their final regular season game against Ohio Dominican. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
