Cardinals Fall in First Round of GLIAC Tournament, 2-1 in Overtime

FINDLAY, Ohio - The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team fell to the University of Findlay, 2-1 in overtime Tuesday (Nov. 2) in the first round of play in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament.

The first 45 minutes of play remained scoreless for both teams. Findlay struck first at the 58:28 mark when they scored off a one touch play. The Cardinals knotted the score at ones when junior Abby Bellamy (Davidson, Mich.) found the back of the net on a header over the keeper off a pass from sophomore Charley Porter (Midland, Mich.). The score remained tied through the end of the half and the contest was forced into overtime. The Oilers scored the decisive goal of the game when their shot from 15 yards out slipped past the goaltender for the 2-1 win over the Cardinals.

With the loss, Saginaw Valley fall to 9-8-1 overall on the season while Findlay improves to 9-6-3 overall on the season. The Cardinals now await their fate for possible postseason play, as the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional pairings will be announced via a selection show on ncaa.com on Monday, November 8 at 7:00 pm.  SVSU was ranked in seventh in the most recent regional rankings, with the top eight teams making NCAA postseason play.
