ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State
University women’s soccer team advanced to the finals of the
2008 Women’s Soccer Tournament for the third time in five
years after knocking off Tiffin University with a score of 2-1.
Scoring for the Cardinals began in the second half at the 49
minute mark as a Tiffin player knocked the ball into their own net
to tie the score 1-1. Just two minutes later, junior Jaclyn Barrett
(Williamston, Mich. /Williamston HS) found the back of the net and
tallied the game-winning, unassisted goal for the Cardinals.
Saginaw Valley’s Anne Bershbach (Algonac, Mich. / Luthern
North HS) charted six saves at the goalkeeper’s position to
hold Tiffin to just one goal.
The win puts the Cardinals into the championship game Sunday (Nov.
9) at 1:00 against the winner of the Grand Valley/Ferris State
match that is scheduled for later today in Allendale, Mich.
