ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women’s soccer team advanced to the finals of the 2008 Women’s Soccer Tournament for the third time in five years after knocking off Tiffin University with a score of 2-1.

Scoring for the Cardinals began in the second half at the 49 minute mark as a Tiffin player knocked the ball into their own net to tie the score 1-1. Just two minutes later, junior Jaclyn Barrett (Williamston, Mich. /Williamston HS) found the back of the net and tallied the game-winning, unassisted goal for the Cardinals. Saginaw Valley’s Anne Bershbach (Algonac, Mich. / Luthern North HS) charted six saves at the goalkeeper’s position to hold Tiffin to just one goal.

The win puts the Cardinals into the championship game Sunday (Nov. 9) at 1:00 against the winner of the Grand Valley/Ferris State match that is scheduled for later today in Allendale, Mich.
