UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – In a hard
fought contest, the Saginaw Valley State University womens soccer
team lost a tight match up with Northern Michigan University 3-2
Friday (Sept. 26) afternoon at the SVSU Soccer Complex.
In the loss, which puts the Cardinals’ record at 2-3 overall
and 2-1 in the GLIAC, the Cardinals fought hard in the middle of
the field, but couldn’t overcome the Wildcats’ one goal
advantage as time ran out.
In the first half, SVSU senior Stephanie Roy (Royal Oak,
Mich./Dondero HS) netted the Cardinals’ first goal at the 18
minute mark to knot the score 2-1. In the second half, Roy found
the back of the net again when she received a pass from junior
Jaclyn Barrett (Williamston, Mich./Williamston HS) at the 72 minute
mark to beat Northern’s goalkeeper Kara Music.
In the loss, the Cardinals notched 13 shots on goal, and will look
for a win when SVSU travels to Ashland University on Oct. 3.
