UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – After several
weeks of tough conditioning, the Lady Cardinals finally had their
season opening game against Indianapolis on Friday (Aug. 29). In a
tough fought contest, the Cardinals ended in the losing end of a
4-3 contest.
Indianapolis jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead as Ashley Seehase
scored the first two goals of the game to put the Greyhounds up at
3:34 into the game. Saginaw Valley’s freshman Samantha Echols
(Walled Lake, Mich. /Central HS) found the net to make the score
2-1 at the 11:43 mark. A Greyhound goal just ten minutes later gave
Indianapolis a 3-1 lead. The Lady Cardinals struck back and scored
off the foot of Kim Oberski (Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron HS), but
Indianapolis’ Jamie Huebner quickly responded with a goal
before the end of the half.
Dana Rosswurm scored in the second half putting Indianapolis up
4-2. The game was a back and forth battle until Jacylyn Barrett
(Williamston, Mich./Williamston HS) scored a goal, on a kick over
the keepers head however it wouldn’t be enough to put the
Cardinals on top when time expired.
Saginaw Valley moves to 0-1, 0-0 GLIAC while Indianapolis moves to
1-0. The Cardinals will be back in action again Friday (Sept. 5) as
they travel to Missouri-St. Louis for a 7:00 pm contest.
