UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – On senior day
for the Saginaw Valley State University women’s soccer team,
the Cardinals came up short in overtime as SVSU lost to rival Grand
Valley State University on Sunday 2-1 at the SVSU Soccer
Complex.
The Cardinals lead for most of the game, as senior Kim Oberski
(Port Huron, Mich./Port Huron HS) scored just 11 minutes into the
game. SVSU would take that lead into the half.
In the second half, Grand Valley got on the board at the 56 minute
mark on a free kick to end the scoring in regulation to send the
match into sudden death overtime. It would take Grand Valley just
3:47 to score the golden goal to end the game.
The loss drops the Cardinals record to 6-8 overall, and 6-6 in the
GLIAC, while Grand Valley remains undefeated at 18-0, and 13-0 in
the GLIAC. The Cardinals will return to action at 12 p.m. Wednesday
(Oct. 29).
