UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – On a chilly
afternoon, the SVSU womens soccer team was red hot as they blew out
visiting Findlay University 4-0 at the SVSU Soccer Complex on
Sunday (Sept. 21).
After an opening half where much of the game was played in the
middle of the field with neither team producing much offense, the
Cardinals started the second half reenergized, and quickly began
putting pressure on the Oiler’s defense.
At the 66 minute mark, SVSU’s Kim Oberski (Port Huron,
Mich./Port Huron HS) dished a perfect pass to Jaclyn Barrett
(Williamston, Mich./Williamston HS) who beat Oilers goalkeeper
Alicia Tutino to give SVSU the lead 1-0. Ten minutes later, Barrett
found the back of the net again, this time off a feed from Samantha
Echols (Walled Lake, Mich./Central HS) to put the Cardinals up by
two.
Less than four minutes later, Oberski notched a goal to put the
Cardinals up 3-0, and then rounded out the scoring with her second
goal at the 83 minute mark. Oberski led all scorers in the contest
with two goals, and two assists.
Preserving the shutout, Missy Fredrick (Canton, Mich./John Glenn
Westland HS) turned away six shots on goal, and keeping the
Cardinals undefeated in the GLIAC (2-0) and evening their overall
record to 2-2.
The win gives the Cardinals momentum into their next match at 4
p.m. Friday in a GLIAC match with visiting Northern Michigan
University.
