ASHLAND, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State
University women’s soccer team beat Ashland University 1-0 on
Sunday.
In a match that saw SVSU get eight shots on goal, the Cardinals
proved that games are won in the waning minutes as junior defender
Sarah Peters (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage HS) put the ball in the back
of the net at the 80 minute mark for the lone goal of the contest.
Freshman forward Samantha Echols (Walled Lake, Mich./Central HS)
got the assist.
Mining the net for the Cardinals, freshman Anne Bershbach
(Algonac, Mich./Lutheran North HS) gets the shutout. In front of
Bershbach, the Cardinal defense was able to keep Ashland’s
offense to just two shots on goal the entire game.
With the win, SVSU improves their overall record to 3-3 overall,
and 3-1 in the GLIAC as they prepare for their next match at 4 p.m.
on Oct. 3 as the Cardinals invade Ferris State University.
