SVSU Women's Basketball Head Coach Jamie Pewinski will be entering her eighth season at the helm for SVSU in the upcoming 2018-19 season. 

In the 2017-2018 season, the Cardinals posted a 6-21 overall record and a record a 6-14 in conference play. The Cardinals bodied a young squad with 11 underclassmen, 8 of those being freshmen. The Cardinals finished 24th academically in all of NCAA Division 2 with a team GPA of 3.575.

The Cardinals had a banner year once again in 2016-17, claiming the program's second straight GLIAC North Division Championship and appearance in the NCAA Division II Round of 32 after a victory over Lewis. Saginaw Valley had 23 victories, which is a program record since the move to the NCAA. The Cards also matched the 2015-16 team's record with 17 GLIAC victories. SV led the nation in free throw percentage, shooting at an 81.8% clip from the charity stripe. Senior Emily Wendling was named First Team All-GLIAC and All-Midwest Region and was named a First Team Academic All-American. She earned her second straight GLIAC Commissioner's Award as well. Wendling and Katelyn Carriere both earned First Team All-GLIAC honors while Carriere was named to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. Wendling finished her career as the program's all-time leading scorer with 1,973 points, also earning the top spot in career free throws (482) and free throw percentage (85.5%).   

In 2015-16, the Cardinals claimed the GLIAC North Division Championship for the first time while posting a 22-9 record and 17-5 GLIAC mark. The team advanced to the NCAA Division II Tournament for the third time and claimed its second-ever win in the tournament. Emily Wendling was named the GLIAC and Midwest Regional Player of the Year, as well as being honored with several All-American Honors. She earned Second Team Academic All-American plaudits as well. Halee Nieman was named the GLIAC Freshman of the Year while Katelyn Carriere earned Second Team All-GLIAC Honors.

In the injury-plaqued 2014-15 season, the Cardinals posted a 9-19 overall record and 4-18 mark in league play. The 2013-2014 season proved to be a record breaking one for the Saginaw Valley State University Women’s Basketball team, as they finished with a 14-13 (12-10 GLIAC) record and were the #6 seed in the GLIAC Tournament.  The quarterfinal appearance marked the first back-to-back GLIAC Tournament appearances for the Cardinals since the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons.  The 14 victories are the most for the program since the 2003-2004 season and the 12 GLIAC wins, including a win streak of six, are the most for the Cardinals since the 1998-1999 season.  The back-to-back seasons finishing over .500 has also not happened since the 1997-1998 and 1998-1999 seasons.  Because of this record breaking year, Pewinski became the first coach to earn GLIAC "Coach of the Year" in the history of Saginaw Valley State University Women’s Basketball.

Along with the victories, some school records fell and individual honors were achieved.  The team set a school record for three-point field goal percent at 39.1%.  That percentage was good enough to lead the GLIAC and finish third in the nation.  SVSU also broke the school record for team free throw percentage at 77.1%.  That put them second in the GLIAC and 11^th in the nation for free throw percentage.  Pewinski earned the 100^th victory of her head coaching career on December 7^th against conference opponent Tiffin University.  The 2013-2014 squad was led by seniors Kristen Greene and Kayla Womack, who both earned All-GLIAC Second Team Honors.  Greene set a new mark for single-season free throw percentage at 89.2%, became the all-time leader at SVSU with 424 career three-pointers attempted and sits third in career three-pointers made at SVSU with 147.  Greene surpassed the 1,000-point mark in the Cardinals' game at Northern Michigan University on February 13th.

The 2012-2013 campaign saw an amazing improvement in the program as the team finished 13-14 (11-11 GLIAC) and earned a berth as the 7^th seed in the GLIAC Tournament.  This was the first time SVSU finished at least .500 in the GLIAC since the 1998-1999 season.  Emily Wendling earned GLIAC "Freshman of the Year" honors along with All-GLIAC First Team honors and Sam Zirzow was selected to the GLIAC All-Defensive Team. 

Coach Pewinski was hired as the 10^th head women’s basketball coach in school history on April 18, 2011.  Pewinski hailed from fellow GLIAC school Lake Superior State University, where she spent the previous 12 years (5 as head coach) and was a key figure in the Laker’s winningest era in women’s basketball history.  During her time at LSSU, the Lakers had a record of 219-118.  As an assistant, the Lakers made five straight NCAA Tournament appearances, won the GLIAC North Division title four times and won a pair of GLIAC Tournament championships.  The best finish for LSSU was in 2003-2004 when they reached the Sweet 16 before falling to the host school, Quincy University, in the Regional Finals. 

Pewinski coached and recruited many players that have garnered GLIAC and National awards. All-American Alice Duesing, who earned the Today’s Top VIII Award, which is the highest honor an NCAA student-athlete can achieve, led the 2002-2003 LSSU team.  All-Region center, Becky Marquardt-King led the GLIAC in scoring and led the nation in field-goal percentage at .711 in 2005-2006.  In her final season at Lake State, Pewinski coached Emily Joseph who was named the GLIAC "Player of the Year."  In all, Pewinski coached three GLIAC "Player of the Year" award winners, 23 GLIAC All-Conference members, 12 GLIAC All-Defensive team members and numerous All-Americans. 

Academically, Pewinski’s teams have excelled as well.  In 2006-2007, led by five GLIAC All-Academic players, the Lakers were touted as the nation's top Division II team on the WBCA Academic Top 25 Honor Roll.  They finished with a team grade point average of 3.588. In 2007-2008, All-Region center Jackie Armstrong was named to the ESPN “The Magazine” Academic All-America Second Team.  The 2013-2014 team's current GPA of 3.53 is tops in the athletic department at SVSU after having the lowest departmental GPA when Pewinski arrived. 

A Rochester, Michigan native, Pewinski is familiar with the GLIAC from her playing days at Oakland University and SVSU.  At SVSU, Pewinski set the record for single-season three-point field goal percentage at 43.6 (48-110).  SVSU was 20-7 during her senior season.  During her three seasons at Oakland, the Pioneers were 90-27, making three trips to the NCAA Tournament, including a trip to the Elite Eight during her freshman season. 

Pewinski graduated from Saginaw Valley in 1999 with a bachelor’s degree in business management and received her Masters in Business Administration from Lake Superior State University in 2002.
