Zarycki named GLIAC South POTW

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team had a successful week as the Cardinals looked to stay in the race for the postseason. The team's performance was highlighted by the play of sophomore guard Kaitlyn Zarycki, who claimed a weekly conference award for the first time in 2021, it was announced Monday.

The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected Zarycki as the GLIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Zarycki led the Cardinals to a 2-1 record last week, with wins over Northwood University and Wayne State University at home. Zarycki helped SVSU keep pace in the GLIAC postseason positioning race, with three spectacular games, averaging 17 points, 3.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, four steals, and nearly one block per game.

Her week was highlighted by 19 points, including three 3-pointers in a win over Northwood to give SVSU the season sweep. She closed the week with a 14-point and seven steal-performance against Wayne State.

The Niles, Mich., native is averaging 13.8 points, 6.1 rebounds, 3.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game in 16 starts this season.

The Cardinals close the 2021 regular season with two games this weekend at Davenport University starting at 4 pm Friday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
