UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team had two opportunities to secure a win at the buzzer over Michigan Tech on Saturday, but the Huskies escaped with a win in double overtime to sweep the two-game Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference series Saturday at the James E. O'Neill Jr. Arena.

The Cardinals got a 3-point play from Tori DePerry with 32 seconds remaining in regulation, and after a defensive stop, SVSU had a chance for the win. Maddie Barrie missed the mark with a last-second 3-pointer sending the contest to overtime. 

SVSU led by four points in the first overtime period after a 3-point play from Kaitlyn Zarycki, but the Huskies rallied to tie the score, setting up the Cardinals for another look at a game-winning score. Two attempts from inside by Maddie Maloney failed to go down and the game went to a second extra frame. 

Michigan Tech found its range from deep, outsourcing SVSU 14-4  in the second overtime period to earn an 80-70 win. The loss drops the Cardinals to 4-7 overall and 4-7 in the GLIAC.

Zarycki led four Cardinals in double figures with 16 points, adding seven assists. DePerry finished with 15 points and seven rebounds off the bench. Kyndall Spires and Barrie recorded 11 and 10 points, respectively. 

The Cardinals shot 28-of-61 from the field, 6-of-24 from deep, and 8-of-10 at the line, finishing with 16 assists, 23 turnovers, and outrebounding the Huskies 38-27.

Ellie Mackay scored a game-high 22 points to pace Michigan Tech (10-1, 10-1 GLIAC).

The Cardinals hit the road for two games against Ferris State University starting at 6 pm Friday in Big Rapids, Mich.
