GLIAC -- The Cardinal Women's Basketball team has been picked to finish in sixth place in the South Division in the 2018-19 GLIAC Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll. The Lady Cardinals garnered received 16 points, finishing two behind 5th place Davenport in the south.
Grand Valley State was picked to win the division with 58 points and seven first-place votes while Ashland was second with 54 points and four first-place nods. Wayne State (39) and Northwood (31) sit third and fourth, respectively. Northern Michigan had 60 points and picked up 10 first-place votes to be the favorite in the North Division.

2018-19 SVSU Women's Basketball Season Preview
The Cardinal Women's Basketball team looks to bounce back strong from last season where SVSU posted a 6-21 overall record and 6-14 mark in GLIAC play. Head Coach Jamie Pewinski returns for her eighth season leading the program and welcomes seven returners back from the 2017-18 squad. SVSU has qualified for the GLIAC Tournament in four of Pewinski's seven years and has participated in two of the past three NCAA Division II tournaments.
Sophomore guard and leading scorer, Laurel Jacqmain, returns for her second season after averaging 12.3 ppg last season. She started all 27 contests and averaged 28.6 mpg. Forward Abby Duffy and guard Hannah Settingsgaard return as well for their senior seasons. Duffy was second on the team in scoring (9.8 ppg) last year and led the way with 6.0 rpg as well. Settingsgaard ranked third offensively in scoring with 9.5 ppg and was second on the squad with 29.0 mpg played, along with being the Cardinals' primay lock-down defender.
Saginaw Valley begins the season with a pair of regional contests the second weekend of November. The Cardinals host Bellarmine Friday (Nov. 9) at 3:00 p.m. before playing Southern Indiana Sunday (Nov. 11) in a 1:00 p.m. matchup. Conference action begins with a Nov. 29 game at home versus Michigan Tech and a Dec. 1 game versus Northern Michigan.
