SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University women's basketball team fell to Lake Superior State University today (Dec. 17), 69-51. The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), while the Lakers improve to 5-6 on the season and 1-3 in the conference.

Saginaw Valley was led by Meijer "Player of the Game" Jasmine Woods who scored a team-high 13 points.

With the game tied at 30, the Lakers would add two buckets in the final 30 seconds to take a 34-30 lead into the half.

SVSU would struggle to get the offense going in the second half as the Lakers jumped out to a 41-30 lead after a 7-0 run.

LSSU's lead would grow to as many as 18 before Grace Herzog (Linden, Mich./Powers Catholic HS) finished off a three-point play to cut the score to 52-37.  SVSU would cut the lead to 12 on a layup by Shaiyan Ferris (Davison, Mich.) with 8:36 to play, but the Cardinals would not get any closer as the Lakers went on to the 69-51 victory.

Herzog finished the afternoon with nine points and four blocks, while Ferris added seven points.

The Cardinals will return to action on Dec 30 and 31 when they travel to Austin, Texas, to compete in the St. Edward's New Year's Classic.
