SVSU Men’s Track & Field Team Compete at Lewis Invitational

CHICAGO – The Saginaw Valley State University men's track and field team competed in the Lewis Invitational on Friday evening in Chicago. The Cardinals had a good showing at the meet with two event wins and four personal best markings.

Dominic Suliman was one of the SVSU winners as he finished the mile in four minutes and 8.78 seconds. Andrew Quinn won the shot put with a season-best marking of 16.90m. Quinn was also fifth in the weight throw with a heave of 16.00m

Three Cardinal athletes were runners-up in their respective events. Clarence Corbett finished behind teammate Quinn in the shot put with a best throw of 15.93m. Nick McArdle placed second in the 3000m after setting a personal-best finish of 8:28.67. Deven Varela also collected a second-place result in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 4.47m.

Trevor Culpepper finished third in the preliminaries of the 60m with a qualifying time of 6.93 seconds. Christian Purchase-Ofoeme finished the long jump in third place after his best effort came in at 6.52m.

Alexander Stoll and Zach deBeauclair both finished fifth in their respective events. Stoll finished the 60H in 8.64, a season-best time, while deBeauclair clocked a personal-best time of 8:59.23 in the 3000m.

The SVSU men's track & field team make one more road trip to compete in the two-day GVSU Big Meet next weekend (Friday and Saturday, February 9-10) before returning home for the SVSU Tune Up Meet that precedes the conference championships.
