Olshevska, Arens, Stimpfel earn Conference honors, Cardinals close GLIAC Championships

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University track and field teams concluded the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday from Grand Valley State University. The men finished the meet fourth in the team standings with 110 points, while the women took third with 128 points. 

Following the meet CarLee Stimpfel was named the GLIAC Men's Track Athlete of the Meet, Ben Arens was named Men's Freshman Field Athlete of the Meet, and Alona Olshevska was named GLIAC Women's Track Athlete of the Year. 

Women's Highlights:

  • Olshevska took home the GLIAC title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.48 seconds. She was runner-up in the 200-meter dash in 24.49. 
  • The 4x100-meter relay team of Olshevska, Angelina Delbosque, Sophia Thelen, and Jordan Abston took first with a time of 47.93 seconds. 
  • Arianna Wegienka won her second GLIAC title of the meet, posting a time of 17:10.93 in the 5000-meter run. 
  • In the final event of the meet, Thelen, Olivia Carpenter, Lauren Buckner, and Jenna Picard took third place in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:59.99.
  • Ciera Weber was runner-up in the pole vault event with a mark of 3.69 meters (NCAA P).
