Cardinals Compete at SVSU-Hosted Doug Hansen Open

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The SVSU track & field teams hosted the Doug Hansen Open on Friday (Jan. 20) night, held inside the SVSU Fieldhouse. There were many top finished in a meet that featured solid competition throughout.

Men's Results

A trio of SVSU runners finished out in front in the mile run. Leading the pack was Tom Goforth, who crossed the finish line with a time of 4:17.28. He was followed closely by teammates Joey Southgate and Eddie Komph, who turned in times of 4:17.97 and 4:19.92, respectively.

In the 400 meter dash, Dalton Hollandsworth finished in fifth place with a mark of 50.21 seconds. 

The 60 meter dash saw a pair of Cards advance to the finals, with Tra'Von Phillips and Jullane Walker finishing second and third in the prelims with times of 7.01 and 7.05. Walker would finish fifth in the finals with a time of 7.01 and Phillips sixth with a showing of 7.02.

Phillips would add a third place finish in the 200 meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 22.23. Teammate Juan Bowers finished just ahead of him in the event, turning in a second place showing of 22.12 seconds.

That same pair of Phillips and Bowers were part of the 4 x 400 meter relay team that finished in second place. They teamed-up with Carter Eckhardt and Hollandsworth for a time of 3:22.26.

Sam Black finished fourth in the long jump with a distance of 6.14 meters while Brady Watson was third in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.88 meters.

Ryan Kelly had a runner-up showing in the shot put, as he tossed it a distance of 15.77 meters. That mark is a provisionally qualifying distance for Kelley.

Women's Results

In the 400 meter run, Ce'Aira Richardson topped her top mark of last week with a time of 56.40 seconds to provisionally qualify for nationals. She finished second in Friday's race. Teammate Lauren Huebner was third, posting a time of 58.34 seconds. Morgan Fuerst posted a fifth place showing with a mark of 59.11.

Fuerst would add a sixth place showing in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:22.79.

The Cardinals had three runners qualify for the 60 meter dash finals, as Huebner (8.05), Richardson (8.10) and Daija Hamilton (8.35) finished third, fourth and seventh, respectively, to advance to the finals. Huebner would finish third with a time of 8.12 in the finals, with Richardson finishing fifth (8.28) and Hamilton seventh (8.43).

Richardson finished third in the 200 meter run, posting a mark of 25.93 seconds. Huebner was sixth in the same race, finishing with a time of 26.35 seconds.

Anna Fochesato finished fourth in the high jump, clearing the bar at a height of 1.53 meters. She added a second place showing in the triple jump, posting a distance of 11.31 meters. 

Saginaw Valley hosts the Jet's Pizza Open this weekend, with the two-day event beginning Friday (Jan. 27) at the SVSU Fieldhouse.
