Track & Field Hosts SVSU Classic

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University Track & Field teams hosted the annual SVSU Classic Track meet on Saturday (Jan. 14) afternoon in the SVSU Fieldhouse. The Cardinals had some solid performances in the home meet.

In the women's 400, Ce'Aira Richardson notched a provisional mark with a time of 57.00 seconds, taking the top spot in the race. That is currently the second best mark in the GLIAC and 11th best mark in the nation. Lauren Huebner finished first in the 600 meter as well, finishing with a time of 1:39.15. She would then team-up with Morgan Fuerst, Domonique Smith and Richardson for a victory in the 4 x 400 meter relay with a mark of 3:55.32.

Alicia Tomlin finished runner-up in the 800 meters, posting a mark of 2:19.64. Anna Fochesato was also second in her event, jumping to a height of 1.53 meters in the high jump. Teammate Monica LeDuc was fourth in the same event, clearing the bar at a height of 1.43 meters.

Furerst had a sixth place showing in the 200 meters as well, crossing the line with a time of 27.21.

For the men, Ryan Kelly took the top spot in the shot put. He registered a distance of 15:47 meters. Ben Morrow was second in the weight throw, tossing it 15.07 meters. He was also runner-up to Kelly in the shot put with a distance of 15.32 meters. 

Brady Watson was first in the triple jump with his distance of 12.72 meters. In the high jump, Noah VanderVeeen was second with his height of 1.88 meters.

Landon Lyons finished second in the 60 meter dash, crossing the line with a mark of 7.13 seconds. He advanced to the finals with a preliminary mark of 7.17 seconds.

Rob Roest finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.80. Sam Black finished fourth with a distance of 6.06 meters in the long jump.

In the pole vault, the Cardinals finished third through fifth in finishes. Sebastian Behme, Jacob Kulhanek and Chase Field rounded-out those places with heights of 4.26 meters and 4.11 meters, with Behme and Kulhanek tying for third place.

The 4 x 400 meter relay teams finished second and fourth as well, with Carter Eckhardt, Travon Phillips, Juan Bowers and Gavin Stepansky finishing second with their mark of 3:26.23 and Logan Malone, Jordan Wells, Dalton Hollandsworth and Lyons finishing fourth with a 3:30.33. Eckhardt would add a sixth place showing in the 200 meters with a time of 23:37.

Thomas Kean finished sixth in the 3,000 meters with his mark of 9:17.34. Timmy Kimball finished fourth in the mile with a time of 4:26.53 and teammate Clyde Anderson was sixth with a mark of 4:30.50. 

Sam Black finished fifth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:28.67. In the 400 meters, The Cardinals finished in spots 4-9, with Jordan Wells leading the way with his time of 52:21. 

The Cardinals return to the oval on Friday (Jan. 20), as they host the Doug Hansen Open at the SVSU Fieldhouse. That meet is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
