UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University swimming and diving teams opened up the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Friday from the Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center.
Women's Highlights:
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Flora Mia Szklenar, Erin McDowell, Emma Cornell, and Lisette Fenneuff finished fourth with a time of 1:46.52.
- Sydney Shipps took sixth place in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:33.30. Lucy Engle-Wilkerson was 10th with a time of 10:38.80, and Ava Frick was 16th with a time of 10:45.92
- Kimble Darbee was 14th in the 200-yard individual medley finals with a time of 2:12.14, Grace Charnstrom was right behind in 15th place in 2:13.91.
- In the 50-yard freestyle, Tonya Guryeva won the B-Finals in 23.92 seconds, taking ninth overall. The senior's time was an NCAA DII B-Standard.
- Guryeva, Shipps, Cornell, and Piper St. Clair took third place in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:35.26, setting a new SVSU school record.
Men's Highlights:
- Two Cardinals qualified for the 1-meter diving finals, with Corbin Montpas taking sixth with 385.70 points. Adrien McGill was the GLIAC champion in the event, posting a score of 450.45 points.
- The 200-yard medley relay team of Alejandro Robles Ruiz, Christian Rottier, Pedro Rezende, and Josh Rottier finished in fifth place with a time of 1:29.30, setting a school record.
- Matteo Capotosti was ninth in the 1000-yard freestyle in 9:40.03.
- Kyle Amick took 13th in the 50-yard freestyle in 21.26 seconds.
- Robles Ruiz, Josh Rottier, Kyle Amick, and Sanders Modglin finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:21.68 for a new school record.
