Cardinals Drop Two at Ohio Dominican

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team dropped both games in a non-conference doubleheader at Ohio Dominican on Monday afternoon. The Cardinals (16-6) faced a tough one-run loss in game one before falling 8-1 in the second game.

Sara Moos went 2-6 at the plate to lead SVSU offensively. Six other Cardinal players managed a hit in the tough two-game outing. Maddie Campagna hit a solo home run in game one to contribute the long RBI for SVSU on the afternoon. Sarah Gersch tallied a run on the day.

Game 1: Ohio Dominican def. Saginaw Valley State, 2-1

A single to center in the bottom half of the first inning broke the tie and gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead.

Campagna tied things up in the top half of the third inning with a home run in the top of the third inning.

An unearned run in the bottom of the fourth broke the tie after a sacrifice bunt moved a runner across the plate and gave Ohio Dominican the final 2-1 score.

Emily Depew (L, 4-3) pitched six innings and had two strikeouts inside the center during the losing effort.

Game 2: Ohio Dominican def. Saginaw Valley State, 8-1

The Panther jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two scoreless innings started game two. Katelyn Pnacek singled up the middle to score Gersch and cut into the Ohio Dominican lead.

An SVSU error allowed two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning before a single to center field scored another to push the lead to 6-1.

Two more runs in the sixth settled the score at 8-1.

The SVSU softball team returns home to host Ferris State on Saturday, March 25, in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opener at 1:00 p.m.
