Cardinal Softball Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

Cardinal Softball Announces 2019 Recruiting Class

UNIVERSITY CENTER -- In the most recent early signing period, the SVSU Softball program and head coach Todd Buckingham has officially announced the addition of 13 student-athletes that are set to join the Cardinals for the 2019 season.

"I'm honored to announce our signees in the graduating class of 2018," said Buckingham. "This class has a tremendous amount of talent and promise, as did the graduating class of 2017. Our current freshmen and this class combined are perhaps the most important two classes our program has seen in recent history. With a historic class of seniors leaving our program after this year, we had to find top-caliber talent to reload. That's what championship-level programs do - they reload and maintain. Our current seniors simply cannot be replaced. How could they? Statistically, they have a chance to be the winningest class in program history if we have the type of year that we are capable of and their offensive numbers are tops in the program history over a four-year span. So as coaches, we knew we had to reload. We feel we have completed that task. Our signees the past couple of years will continue to keep SVSU Softball relevant in the national title hunt."

Alyssa Seegraves

"Alyssa brings grit to our program. She's a talented infielder that has the toughness to play third base and the range to play second base. He bat is one of the most dangerous in our area."

Katy Ratajczak
Utility
Bay City, Mich. / Essexville Garber High School

"Katy is a solid utility player that has the athleticism to play almost anywhere on the field and her character makes her even more of an asset. I'm sure she will need no extra motivation to perform at her highest level as she tries to break some of her mother's career stats she racked-up in her Cardinal career."

Kael Prickett

Guelph, Ontatio / Guelph Collegiate Vocational Institute

"Kael is a rare talent and a complete game changer. She can hit for power and high average, has a cannon for an arm, quick release and champion mentality. She will be a force from day one in the GLIAC and we are elated she's bringing her talents from Canada here to SVSU."

Sara Moos

"Jessica is a super smooth player. She has great range up the middle and a strong arm. One of the best defensive infield prospects we have signed. She will challenge right away."

Raechel Ashmus

"Raechel is one of the hardest working players I have seen in all of my years of coaching. Her game has exponentially grown over the past two years and she will challenge right away for important innings in the outfield."

"Abby is a true utility that can play infield or outfield for us. She has a heart of gold and an infectious attitude. Her work ethic will allow her to become a great Cardinal!"

Savannah Oen

Sarah Gersch

"Jackie is one of the best baserunners I have ever seen. She has an incredible softball IQ and is fearless in the outfield. She will no doubt play right away and make a big impact."

Jackie Groves
Pitcher
Olivet, Mich. / Olivet High School

"Jackie is a workhorse in the circle. She's the type of pitcher that never tires and has a high level of consistency with her pitches. She will add depth to our pitching staff and can really swing the stick."

Lexie McAfee
Pitcher
Memphis, Ind. / Henryville High School

"Lexie is the top pitching prospect in the Southern Indiana region. She has had tremendous sucess at the high school and travel ball levels and I know that will translate into big wins here. With great movement and pitch speeds in the 60's, Lexie will be a force in the circle for us."

Erika Turpin
Pitcher
Plainfield, Ind. / Plainfield High School

"Erika is another Divison I talent that chose to play Division II. When we saw her hit 65 on the radar gun, we knew she could come and help us win championships. Erika doesn't simply throw hard, but also know how to make the ball jump. Her rise ball will dominate the GLIAC."
