UNIVERSITY CENTER - The SVSU softball team posted a GLIAC split at home against the Wayne State University Warriors on Saturday (Apr. 8) at the SVSU Softball Complex. The Cardinals had nine hits while notching a 4-0 victory in game one before falling by a 4-1 count in the nightcap.
Game One
Saginaw Valley got on the board quick with an Aubree Mouthaan RBI single up the middle, which scored Danielle Hamilton. Hamilton reached on a lead-off double to left field.
The Cards added two more runs in the home half of the 4th, as Julia Miller deposited a home run over the left field fence, giving the team a 3-0 lead. She scored Courtney Reeves, who reached on an infield single.
The final run for SV was in the bottom of the 6th. That was when Anna Conard ripped a pinch-hit double to place Evy Lobdell, who reached on a walk to begin the half-inning. That made the score 4-0, which is where it remained.
Inside the Boxscore
- Miller had the two-run home run for the Cardinals.
- Reeves had a pair of hits and scored a run.
- Mouthaan had two hits as well, adding an RBI.
- Hamilton, Lauren Bachert and Conard each had a double as well.
- Rousse added a hit, as the home squad totaled nine in the contest.
In the Circle
- Samantha Willman picked up her 10th victory of the season, working a complete game shutout. She alowed just two hits, three walks and struck-out four batters.
Game Two
The Cardinal bats weren't as hot as in the opener, as SVSU notched only three hits in the second game.
Wayne State scored two runs in the bottom of the 5th and another pair in the 6th, taking a 4-0 lead.
Saginaw Valley scored its only run of the contest in the top of the 7th, using a Conard sacrifice fly that pushed Reeves across the plate. That put the score at 4-1, which would prove to be the final.
Inside the Boxscore
- Rousse had the only extra-base hit for SVSU in the game, a doube to right-center.
- Miller and Lobdell had the other two hits.
- Conard had the team's only RBI while Bachert drew the only walk.
In the Circle
- Willman (10-4) got the start again, working 5.2 innings. She allowed four runs on nine hits, walking one and posting two strikeouts.
- Annie Hansen worked the final 1/3 inning, striking-out the lone hitter she faced.

Saginaw Valley remains atop the GLIAC standings with its 8-2 conference record that goes along with the 21-8 overall mark. The Cardinals are back in action Sunday at home, as they host the Hillsdale College Chargers. First pitch is set for noon at the SVSU Softball Complex.
