FINDLAY, Ohio - The SVSU softball team wrapped up its weekend with a GLIAC doubleheader at the University of Findlay on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinals split on the day, posting a 7-5 victory in the opener before losing a 1-0 contest in the second game in what was the definition of a pitchers' duel.

Game One

Saginaw Valley sprinted out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning. Shelby Weeks scored on an error by the Oilers and Evy Lobdell ripped a two-RBI single to plate Meredith Rousse and Madison Burgess for the other runs. 

In the top of the second inning, Weeks brought-in Aubree Mouthaan with an RBI double to push the lead to 4-0.

Findlay scored in the bottom of the second and added another pair in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. 

Kennedi Thomas scored Mouthaan with a squeeze play in the visitor half of the sixth to make the score 5-3.

The Cardinals pushed the lead to 7-3 after another pair of runs in the seventh, scoring when Weeks crossed the plate once more and a Rousse RBI single that drove-in Burgess.

The Oilers scored twice in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn't enough to over take the Cardinals, who won game one by a final score of 7-5.

Inside the Boxscore

• Weeks went 3-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in the victory. She had a double for the team's only extra-base hit of the game.
• Lobdell had two hits and a pair of RBIs while Rousse added two base knocks with a run and an RBI.
• The Cardinals had 10 hits total in the game, marking the 12th time they have reached double-digits in that category for the 2016 campaign.
• Sarah Appold (7-5) got the victory for SVSU after pitching 4.0 innings in total in start and relief. She allowed three runs on a single hit. She posted two strikeouts and walked seven. 
• Annie Hansen tossed 2.1 innings, allowing two runs on one hit, walking three and striking out one.
• Samantha Willman took over in the last inning, allowing no runs on one hit in 0.2 innings.

Game Two

The second game of the day featured fantastic pitching performances from both sides, as SVSU's Willman got the start and tossed a complete game one-hitter. Findlay's Chelsea McManaway was just a not to be outdone, however, as she posted a perfect game in the win, striking-out 18 of 21 batters she faced.

The Oilers' only run came in the top of the fourth inning, when Findlay took advantage of a walk and error and would eventually score on a fielder's choice for the game's only run.

Inside the Boxscore

• Samantha Willman pitched all seven innings for Saginaw Valley. She allowed only one run on one hit, striking out five and walking four.
• McManaway had the 18 strikeouts for Findlay in the perfect game.

Saginaw Valley returns home for a Tuesday (Apr. 19) non-conference doubleheader against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Rangers. The twinbill is set for 1:00 p.m. at the SVSU Softball Complex.
