Pair of 4-0 Victories Run Softball's Win Streak to Nine to Finish Spring Trip

CLERMONT, Fla. - The Saginaw Valley softball team kept its winning ways rolling, extending its winning streak to nine games to finish the 2016 spring trip. The Cardinals ended the seven day span of 14 games with matching 4-0 victories over GLIAC foe Ferris State University and LIU Post on Saturday afternoon.

Game One

Saginaw Valley scored a run in the top of the third, added two more in the fourth and a fourth in its half of the fifth to grab a 4-0 lead. That's what the final score would prove to be.

The Cardinals got three hits-apiece from Shelby Weeks and Jessica Wood in the opener. Weeks and Evy Lobdell each had an RBI in the contest as well. Saginaw Valley pounded-out 12 hits compared to Ferris's one.

Samantha Willman (2-0) picked up her second victory of the spri in the decision over the Bulldogs. She allowed just one hit and struck-out eight batters despite allowing five walks while working all seven innings in the circle.

Game Two

In the nightcap, SV wasted no time in jumping ahead 1-0 after the first inning. Weeks drove-in Madison Burgess for the first run. A Wood three-run home run would follow in the second inning, scoring Lobdell and Bethaney Murphey for the 4-0 lead.

The score stayed there throughout the contest against the team receiving top-25 votes nationally as Sarah Appold (3-2) got the victory in the circle. She allowed just three hits, struck-out nine batters and walked just two batters in the game.

Danielle Hamilton had two of SVSU's six hits in the game. Wood had the big blow, the three-run shot for the Cardinals. It was her second career home run in an SVSU uniform.

Saginaw Valley (10-4) is off until Tuesday, March 22. The Cardinals are set to open up at home in a 4:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader against Aquinas College.
