Seven SVSU Student-Athletes Earn Postseason Awards

FINDLAY, Ohio - Following the first group of games in the 2014 GLIAC Softball Tournament, the conference recognized seven Cardinals as members of respective All-GLIAC teams. The nominations are voted on by all of the coaches in the league.

Two Cardinals were named First Team All-GLIAC, junior catcher Amanda Best and junior outfielder Mackenzie Rousse. Second Team included junior infielder Lindsay Hayward, sophomore shortstop Shelby Weeks and freshman infielder Abby Stoner. The Honorable Mention Team featured sohomore pitchers Sarah Appold and Sarah Vrabel.

Amanda Best was a force behind the plate for the Cardinals. Besides her powerful arm, Best registered 33 hits including eight doubles, five home runs and 26 runs batted in.

Center fielder Mackenzie Rousse led the outfield with confidence. Speed, athleticism and a .350 batting average made the junior an important piece of the team. 

Lindsay Hayward leads the team in walks with 17 and ranked third with 27 runs batted in. Her .327 average is tops amongst first baseman in the conference.

Sophomore Shelby Weeks led the conference with a .430 batting average, .511 on base percentage and ranked second with a .746 slugging percentage and 16 stolen bases.

Freshman Abby Stoner was a key part of the team's success as a new member to the team. Seven home runs tied her for the team best and 29 runs batted in sat her in second position. 

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Appold ranks seventh in the country in strikeouts per seven innings with 10.5, equalling 109 total. She also sit in fourth position in the GLIAC in total stirkeouts (109).

Sarah Vrabel pitched led all Cardinal pitchers with 89 innings. She leads all teammates with ten wins and seven complete games.
