UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team dropped two Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contests to Northwood Saturday (Apr. 26). The Cardinals lost game one 1-0 before losing game two 2-0.

SVSU falls to 25-8 on the season and 17-5 in the GLIAC while Northwood improves to 26-12 on the year and 17-5 in the conference.

Game One

Northwood's Ashley Lynn began the game with a leadoff single that turned out to be the only hit of the first inning. The T-Wolves Jessica Tostrud doubled to center field and advanced to third on a Jessica Lie sacrifice bunt. Natalie Lampman drove in Tostrud on the next NU at bat to give them a 1-0 lead after two.

SVSU registered two hits and NU added one hit as well heading in to the seventh inning.

After two straight T-Wolves singles in the top of the inning, Alexa Gehrls wrung up Stacey Klonowski to end the frame with no earned runs.

SV threatened in the bottom of the inning to make the visitors sweat a bit. Designated player Kari Knight hit a deep single in to left field to put a runner on base. Nicole Romain pinch ran in the key situation. Romain advance to second and then to third on balls that were put in play by Mallie Hall and Marcy Medina. Chelsea Adcock put contact on a ball, but it failed to find a gap in the infield. The lefty's hit was tossed from the second to first baseman to end the game.

Shelby Weeks, Knight and Medina all earned a hit for the Cardinals.

Gehrls threw a brilliant game from the circle. The senior gave up just five hits while striking out four in her seven innings of work.

Game Two

NU began the second game with an Ashley Lynn walk. She reached second base on a passed ball. Sam Zaborowski singled over Weeks head in to left field to score Lynn from second giving Northwood a 1-0 advantage.

Amanda Kimes led off the top of the third with a single to center field. Weeks followed with a walk to bring Mackenzie Rousse to the plate. The junior center fielder layed down a beautiful sacrifice bunt to advance both baserunners with only one out. An unlucky play allowed NU to double up the home team to get out of the inning with no damage done.

Northwood added another run in the bottom of the fourth inning to close out the 2-0 win for the T-Wolves.

Rousse, Medina and Kimes all hit once for the Cardinals.

Sarah Appold struck out six batters while giving up three hits and two runs in her six inning outing.

The Cardinals are back in action tomorrow (Apr. 27) to close out the regular season as they travel to Grand Valley State for an important doubleheader with the Lakers. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
