SVSU Softball Sweeps GLIAC "Player of the Week" Honors

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior catcher Amanda Best and sophomore pitcher Sarah Vrabel have been chosen as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Player of the Week" and "Pitcher of the Week," respectively after leading the Lady Cardinals to four victories in their opening weekend of conference play.

Vrabel pitched a 10-inning gem Friday in game one of the Walsh doubleheader. She gave up just five hits to the Cavaliers while striking out five and allowing one run. Her second appearance of the weekend came on Saturday in the opener against Lake Erie. She surrendered just four hits, one earned run and a walk in her four innings of work. The sophomore improved to 4-2 on the year after the pair of victories.

Best hit .462 with an on-base percentage of .562 and a slugging percentage of 1.308, scoring seven runs and driving-in seven. The catcher had six hits on the weekend, including two doubles and three home runs.

The SVSU softball team takes its 12-3 overall record and 4-0 GLIAC mark into the weekend with a doubleheader against Wayne State Saturday (Mar. 29) at home. First pitch is scheduled for noon at the SVSU Softball Complex.
