Hayward Named First Team All-GLIAC, Happ and Williamson Honorable Mention

BAY CITY, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team landed three players on All-GLIAC All-Confernce teams as announced by the conference office today (May 3).  Junior Lindsay Hayward (Ancastor, Ont.) was selected to the first team at the at-large position, while senior shortstop Kailah Happ (Waterford, Mich./Kettering HS) and senior pitcher Jillian Williamson (Sebewaing, Mich./USA HS) each earned honorable mention honors.

Hayward led the Cardinals this season with a .411 batting average in conference.  She was the only SVSU player to play in all 38 games this season, racking up 40 hits, 11 doubles and six homeruns.  Defensively she was a rock at first base, committing no errors in 148 chances in conference play.  Hayward had two games this season with two homeruns and eight contests with two or more runs batted in.

Happ ended the season with a .322 batting average in conference play; recording 19 hits, including one homerun and 12 RBI's.  Over her career Happ became one of the most consistent fielders in the GLIAC.  She ended the season with a fielding percentage of .977 in GLIAC play, committing just two errors in 86 chances at shortstop.

Williamson started 16 of the 18 conference games she played in for the Cardinals this season.  She was 6-9 in the circle, but was an innings eater for SVSU with 99.0 innings pitched, including 12 complete games.  Williamson struck out 42 batters in her senior campaign to just 33 walks allowed.

The Cardinals finished the year with a 16-22 record overall and a 12-12 mark in the GLIAC in head coach Todd Buckingham's first season, narrowly missing out on the final spot for the 2013 conference tournament.
