Fulton and Medina Named To Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Saginaw Valley State University senior pitcher Jade Fulton (Byron, Mich.) and freshman third baseman Marcy Medina (Valparaiso, Ind./Wheeler HS) have been named to the Daktronics All-Midwest Region First Team.

Fulton has extended her record to 27-9 following three victories over the weekend at the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional #2 Tournament.  She has 24 complete games, five saves and has struck-out a GLIAC-record 371 batters in 240.0 innings pitched.  She has surrendered only 24 walks in the 2011 season.  Fulton was also named the 2011 GLIAC Softball "Pitcher of the Year".

Medina currently leads the team in batting average (.389) and hits (61), and has pounded-out seven home runs, eight doubles, 39 RBIs and has scored 38 times.  The freshman started 53 games and has appeared in all 54 games for SVSU.

The Cardinals host GLIAC rival Grand Valley State University in a best-of-three weekend super regional match-up, as the two teams compete for a trip to the NCAA Division II World Series in Salem, Va.  The series gets underway with a 3:00 p.m. start on Friday (5/20).  Saturday will feature a noon start for game #2, with an "if necessary" game to follow that contest.
