SVSU to Host Midwest Super Regional

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University softball team has been selected by the NCAA to host the 2011 Division II Midwest Super Regional Championship that will feature the Cardinals of Saginaw Valley State University and the Lakers of Grand Valley State University in a best of three series to be played May 20-21.

SVSU defeated the University of Indianapolis 3-1 in the Midwest Region #2 Championship on Sunday to earn the right to host the 2011 Super Regional.  The Cardinals defeated Northern Kentucky 1-0 and UIndy 4-1 in their other games in the regional.  Grand Valley defeated Lewis University 13-1 in the Midwest #1 Championship on Monday to earn its bid to the Super Regional.  The Lakers defeated Quincy 5-0 and Lewis 8-3 in their other games over the weekend.

This is the Cardinals' second trip to the Super Regional in the past three seasons.  In 2009, they hosted the University of Indianapolis, which eventually defeated the Cardinals 2-1 in the best of three series to advance to the NCAA DII World Series.

The first game between the Cardinals and Lakers will be played on Friday afternoon at 3:00 PM, with game two being played on Saturday at noon with the if necessary game to follow at 2:30 PM if needed.
