Cardinals Fall Twice to Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University softball team dropped both games to Tiffin University today (Mar. 26) in their first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) contests of the season. The Cardinals were defeated 1-0 in game one and 3-2 in game two. Saginaw Valley is now 13-8 overall on the season, and 0-2 in the GLIAC.

The Cardinals and the Dragons would play 0-0 softball in the first game until Tiffin was able to score the only run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning on a homerun. Senior Jade Fulton (Byron, Mich.) suffered the loss for Saginaw Valley dropping her record to 7-4 overall on the season and 0-1 in the GLIAC.

In game two, Tiffin would score in the top of the first inning, but the Cardinals answered right back when freshman Marcy Medina (Valparaiso, Ind.) laced a single that would score senior Jessica McKeith (River Rouge, Mich.). Tiffin would later take a 3-1 advantage in the top of the fourth inning over Saginaw Valley.

The Cardinals would add a run in the bottom of the sixth when Medina hit a double that again scored McKeith, making the final score 3-2. Sophomore Alexa Gehrls (Caledonia, Mich.) took the loss for Saginaw Valley pitching 5.1 innings making her 5-2 overall on the season. Fulton pitched 2.1 innings for the Cardinals with two strikeouts.

Saginaw Valley will be back in action on Sunday (Mar. 27) when they travel to the University of Findlay. The double header is scheduled for noon and 2:00 pm.
