SVSU Men Compete at GVSU-SVSU Dual

ALLENDALE – The Saginaw Valley State University men's track & field team competed in its first event of the 2015 Outdoor Season, going up against the Grand Valley State University Lakers in the annual GVSU-SVSU Dual Meet on Saturday (Mar. 28) afternoon.  Due to cold weather in the area, the event was held indoors, with the exception of the throws and pole vault.

Tra'Von Phillips took second in the 55 Meter Dash, turning in a time of 6.72 seconds.  He added another runner-up finish in the 300 Meter Dash, crossing the line in a time of 36.55 seconds.

James Cousins and Josh Simmons ran in the 500 Meter Dash, finishing with times of 1:08.43 and 1:08.50, respectively.

Andrew Middleton claimed the top spot in the 800 Meter Run with a time of 1:54.82.

Teammates Joey Southgate and David Jensen took first and third place in the 1,500 Meter Run.  The duo had times of 4:04.92 and 4:09.74 in the race.

The 4 x 300 Meter Relay Team, consisting of Simmons, Cousins, Andrew Mudd and Elias Chiatalas, finished first as well with a time of 2:20.57.

Ian Rudel competed in the Pole Vault, clearing the bar with a height of 4.30 meters.

Mudd and Robert Tarpley claimed the top two spots in the long jump.  The two tied for the top spot with a distance of 6.85 meters.

Nick Halabicky claimed a third place showing in the Shot Put, tossing it 14.64 meters.  Teammate Ben Morrow tied for third in the Discus Throw with a mark of 46.28 meters.

The men are back in action on April 3-4 at the Bellarmine Invitational in Louisville, Ky.
