Cardinal Men Compete in Day One of GLIAC Championships

UNIVERSITY CENTER - The Saginaw Valley State University men's indoor track & field team competed in day one of the 2015 GLIAC Indoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday (Feb. 28) in the SVSU Fieldhouse.  The Cardinals sit in seventh place after the first day.

Andrew Mudd was solid on the first day in the Heptathlon.  He finished second in the 60 Meter Dash portion with a time of 7.19 and added a runner-up showing in the long jump with a distance of 21'9.5".  Mudd and Joe Thwing had solid showings in the shot put and high jump as well.  Thwing tossed it out to 39'2.25" and Mudd posted a distance of 38'6" in the shot put.  Thwing's 6'4.25" was good enough for second in the high jump and Mudd finished fourth with a distance of 6'3.25".

Robert Tarpley finished 5th in the long jump, posting a distance of 23'5.5" with an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark.  It was a personal best for Tarpley as well.

D'Omar Boyden qualified for Sunday's finals of the 60 Meter Hurdles, finishing 6th with a time of 8.36 seconds.

Joey Southgate notched a provisional time in the 5,000 Meter Run with a time of 14:36.64, a new personal best for his collegiate career as well.

The men are back in action on Sunday (Mar. 1) for day two of the championships.  Events begin at 9:00 am.
