Tyler Grob Repeats as All-American in the Outdoor Decathlon

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University senior student-athlete Tyler Grob repeated as an All-American Friday (May 23) at the 2014 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships.  The meet was held at Grand Valley State University.

Grob finished in fourth place for the second consecutive year, posting a personal record of 7,384 points.  He topped his school record of 7,230 points he had last year in the same championships.

Entering the day in 2nd place, Grob started the day with a 13th place finish in the 110 meter hurdles, recording 769 points with a time of 15.68 seconds.

He then finished 7th in the discus throw with a distance of 38.32 meters to get 630 points.

One of Grob's best events was next, the pole vault.  He cleared the bar at a height of 4.70 meters to gain 819 points with a 2nd place finish.

Grob was then 13th in the javelin throw, recording a distance of 43.99 meters to earn an even 500 points.

The final event of the decathlon was the 1,500 meter run.  Tyler posted a solid 5th place finish in the run, earning 717 points with a time of 4:34.20.

Chico State's J. Patrick Smith won the national championship for the third-straight year with a point total of 7,645.  

The Cardinals will have Emerald Joiner (shot put) and Anna Fochesato (high jump) competing Saturday (May 24) in the championships.  The shot will begin at 5:05 pm and the high jump at 5:30 pm.
