SVSU Men Complete Competition at Al Owens Invitational

ALLENDALE, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's track & field team finished its final day of competition on Saturday (Apr. 19) at the Al Owens Invitational, hosted by Grand Valley State University.

Matt Wilkinson had an NCAA provisional mark of 49.12 meters in the discus throw, finishing fourth in the event.

Ricky Griffin put up a time of 11.60 in the 100 meter dash, but failed to qualify for the finals in the event.  In the 200 meter dash, Andrew Mudd posted a time of 23.16, finishing in the 21st slot in the race.

Gerald Henderson competed in the 800 meter run for SVSU, crossing the line with a final time of 2:00.36 for a 22nd place showing.  Joey Southgate had a 15th place finish in the 5,000 meter run, finishing with a final time of 15:32.00.

Dashawn Tolbert ran the 110 meter hurdles and finished with a mark of 16.49, good enough for 13th place, just missing out on qualifying for the finals in the race.

There were a few men who competed at the Mt. SAC Relays in California as well for SVSU.  Gareth Gose posted a 9:41.15 finish in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.  In the 800 meter run, Andrew Middleton notched a mark of 1:55.51 and teammate Travis Toye ran a 1:56.07.  The two competed in different sections of the race.

The men are back in action on April 25-26 at the Gina Relays, hosted by Hillsdale College.
