SVSU Men's Track and Field Hosts 'The Cardinal'

UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's track and field team hosted "The Cardinal" Friday afternoon (Jan. 31), held in SVSU's O'Neill Arena.

Saginaw Valley got off to an exceptional start in the men's distance medley, taking the top two spots.  Crossing the finish line in 10:29.58, good for a first place finish, was the team of Travis Toye, Andrew Middleton, DaJuawn Wallace, and David Jensen.  Taking second in a time of 10:42.98 was the team of Gerald Henderson, Andrew Plude, Gareth Gose and George Modrak.  

Toye grabbed another first place finish in the 800 meter run with at time of 1:56.93.

D'Omar Boyden picked up a first place victory for the Cardinals in the 60 meter hurdles, taking the finals in a time of 8.38 seconds.

In the 5,000 meter run Tony Peel was able to take first, crossing the finish line in 15:15.44 with teammate Eric Spitz close behind in third place at 15:33.33.

Grabbing yet another top spot for Saginaw Valley was Joey Burelle in the 3,000 meter run, with a time of 8:44.41.

The Cardinals placed well in the 4X400 meter relay with the team of Andrew Mudd, James Walker, Toye, and Josh Simmons taking first at 3:24.10 and the team of Middleton, Henderson, Wallace, and Jalen Payne taking fourth in 3:35.95.  

Placing in the triple jump for Saginaw Valley were Brady Watson and Robert Tarpley.  Watson jumped 12.60 meters for second place and Tarpley jumped 12.06 meters for third.  Watson also placed second in high jump, reaching 1.95 meters. 

Nicholas Halabicky took third in shot put with a 13.78 meter throw and second in weight throw with a 15.72 meter toss.

The Cardinals will return to action next Friday (Feb. 7) when they travel to Hillsdale, Mich. to compete in the Hillsdale College Invite.
