Men Compete in Jack Skoog Open at CMU

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - The Saginaw Valley State University men's track and field team competed in the Jack Skoog Open, hosted by Central Michigan University on Friday (Feb. 17) evening.

Justin Walker and Ricky Griffin placed well for the Cardinals in the 200 Meter Dash.  Walker crossed the line at 23.61, good for a second place finish, with Griffin right behind him in 3rd place at 23.92.

Finishing the 3,000 Meter Run in first place was Joey Burelle in a time of 9:00.87, with teammates Chris Koon and Tony Peel placing second and third at 9:01.91 and 9:02.95, respectively.

The 4X400 Meter Relay Team of Andrew Mudd, Josh Simmons, James Walker, and Travis Toye were able to pull out a second place finish for Saginaw Valley, crossing the line at 3:26.39.

Freshman Brady Watson jumped to a third place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 12.86 meters.

Placing fourth place in both the Shot Put and Weight Throw events was Sophomore Nick Halabicky, tossing a distance of 14.03 meters in Shot Put and 15.14 meters in Weight Throw.

The Cardinals will return to action next Friday (Jan. 24) when they host the SVSU vs. GVSU Dual, set to begin at 3:00 PM.
