INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Four Saginaw Valley State University track & field athletes will be heading to the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Senior Derek Stone (Metamora, Mich./Lapeer East HS) and sophomore Tyler Grob (Pinckney, Mich.) qualified for the men's team while juniors Alycia Wright (Macomb, Mich./Lutheran North HS) and Elizabeth Willford (Gladwin, Mich.) qualified from the women's team.
Stone posted a qualifying time of 3:51.06 in the 1,500-meter run and earned another chance to compete before his eligibility is exhausted. Grob will enter the meet as the #5 overall seed after his 6,683 point performance at the 2011 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which earned him the GLIAC title and Co-"Field Athlete of the Year" honors. Wright posted a best of 2:11.56 in the 800-meter run to earn the #11 overall seed in the national meet. Willford qualified in the pole vault and will be the #14 overall seed with a height of 3.70-meters.
The 2011 NCAA Division II Championships will be held May 26-28 at the Al Brenda Track Complex in Turlock, California. California State University, Stanislaus will serve as the host to the championships.
