NEW ORLEANS, La. - Saginaw Valley State University men's track & field senior Tony Filipek has been named the Midwest Region Track Athlete of the Year. Filipek, a senior middle-distance runner from Caro, Mich., is the nation’s leader in the 800 meters heading into NCAA competition, having clocked 1:50.57 in winning the GLIAC title last weekend. Along with the NCAA entry in the 800 meters, Filipek is scheduled to be a member of the Cardinal DMR team at the NCAA Championships.
