UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team opened the 2021 season with a 4-0 shutout of Rochester University Friday at home.

The Cardinal defense picked right up where the team left off last year, limiting the Warriors to only two shots on goal. SVSU's defense was led by Benjamin Adamson, who has been named the first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week of the season.

Adamson added a goal from his defensive position, heading the ball home in the 24^th minute on a cross from Robbie Bruce. The goal was the second in the career for the Hull, England native.
