Cardinals Fall to Dragons, 2-1

UNIVERSITY CENTER – The Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell to the Tiffin University Dragons on Sunday (10/26) afternoon by a score of 2-1 in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) matchup at Braddock Field.

The Dragons struck first early in the contest when forward Colin Edwards received a header from Alex Tuliraba and was able to beat SVSU goalkeeper Alexandre Bouillennec at the 3:22 mark.  The rest of the half was played back-and-fourth as the Cardinals and Dragons could only manage nine total shots in the first 45 minutes.  Tiffin would head into the halftime break with a 1-0 lead.

Tiffin would start fast again in the second half as Tuliraba received a pass in the box from Stephen Sadler and found the back of the net to put the Dragons up 2-0 at the 45:15 mark.

The Cardinals would have an answer as a hand ball in the box by Tiffin gave SVSU a penalty shot.  Sophomore Jordan Kalk would bury it for his seventh goal of the season and cut the Dragon lead to 2-1 at the 47:39 mark.

Saginaw Valley would get six more shots off in the game but none of them were put on goal.  Bouillennec received only his second loss of the season while making two saves on the afternoon.

The loss puts Tiffin one point ahead of SVSU in the GLIAC standings with one game remaining for each team.  The Cardinals fall to 12-2-2 overall and 9-2-2 in GLIAC play while the Dragons improve to 11-3-1 overall and 10-3 in the GLIAC.

Saginaw Valley returns to action next Friday (10/31) as they travel to GLIAC rival Northwood for a matchup at 4:00 pm.  It is the last regular season contest for the Cards.
