#2 Cardinals Fall In Double Overtime To Lewis, 3-2

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The #2-ranked Saginaw Valley State University men's soccer team fell on the road in a double-overtime thriller at Lewis University by a score of 3-2.

The Cardinals found themselves in a quick 0-2 hole at the 10:59 mark in the first period, as the Flyers got back-to-back goals from George Thompson within a span of a minute and a half.

The contest would go back-and-forth and remain scoreless until the 53:32 minute mark in the second period.  That's when SVSU junior defenseman Michael Lamb (Sunderland, England/Sandhill View School) found the back of the net off an assist by senior Morley Burns (Rochester, Mich./Adams HS).

Less than five minutes later,  senior mid-fielder Lachlan Savage (Canton, Mich./Plymouth Salem HS) stole the ball from the goalkeeper and knotted the score at two goals apiece with a goal.

Shots by junior Zach Vasold (Freeland, Mich./Freeland HS) and freshman Jordan Kalk (Richmond Hill, Ont./Bill Crothers Secondary) at the end of regulation failed to find the back of the net and the match would extend into overtime.

SVSU out-shot Lewis by a count of 18-2 in the second period, but was only able to capitalize on two of those attempts.

The first overtime period passed with no goals, and it wasn't until the 107:19 mark in the contest that Isaac Sutton scored the game-winner for the Flyers on a rebound off the goalie.

The Cardinals out-shot the Flyers by a 28-12 mark overall in the match.

Saginaw Valley (0-1) travels to Somers, Wis. to take-on the University of Wisconsin-Parkside (1-0) in a non-conference contest.  The match is set to begin at 3:30 Eastern Time.
