DEARBORN, Mich.– The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team placed eighth out of 11 teams recently at the Wayne State University Motor City Classic (Oct. 9-10) on the TPC Michigan course.
The Cardinals shot a 328 during the first round and then shaved off 22 strokes over the next 18 holes for a 306 to wind up with a team total of 634.
Connor Jakacki paced the SVSU contingent with a 74+74=148, which was tied for eighth out of 63 individuals.
Only four shots separated teammates Michael Zanoni (86+74=160, T-38th), Nick Bailey (83+79=162, T-46th) and Jiseung Choi (85+79=164, T-50th).
Ethan Swenson rounded out the Cardinals' lineup and he shot an 87+82=169 for a 54th-place tie.
Grand Valley State swept the team (296+294=590) and individual (Charles Delong, 71+72=143) titles.
Saginaw Valley will take a break from competition for a couple weeks as the Cardinals will prepare for their last scheduled event of the fall on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 29-30, when they travel to Owensboro, Ky., for the Kentucky Wesleyan University Panther Invitational at The Pearl Club.
