SVSU run at GLIAC Championship ends in 1-stroke loss to Ferris State

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team competed in the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship match play semifinals Sunday at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.

The No. 3 seed Cardinals led No. 2 Ferris State University until the final holes, but the Bulldogs were able to tie the score at 2-2-1. Ferris State had one fewer stroke overall, giving the Bulldogs the berth in the GLIAC Championship, which they won over Grand Valley State University later in the day.

SVSU got victories from Connor Jakacki (up 1) and Brady Dice (up 4) in the match play against Ferris State. Brendon Gouin tied his 18-hole match, while Gunnar Stein (down 5) and Jared Lyons (down 1) fell in their respective matches.

The matches were scored under medal match rules, scored by the cumulative number of strokes rather than by holes won.

The season is over for the Cardinals as a team, but individuals may still qualify for NCAA DII Regionals. Information regard qualifiers will be announced when available.
