SVSU men advance to GLIAC Match-Play Semifinals

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team advanced to the semifinal match play of the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship after a strong second round Saturday at Stoatin Brae Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.

The Cardinals shot a second-round 287 to finish the first two days with a total score of 572, good enough for third place overall. The top four teams after the two rounds advance to the GLIAC semifinal match play.

SVSU was led by Brendon Gouin, who shot a second-consecutive round of 70 to close the opening two rounds with a total of 140 and a sixth-place finish on the individual leaderboard. Jared Lyons tied for seventh, one stroke behind Gouin with a 36-hole score of 141.

Connor Jakacki and Brady Dice finished tied for 20th with a 36-hole score of 146, while Gunnar Stein was tied for 34th with a 151.

The Cardinals will take on Ferris State University in the semifinals of the Championships in a match-play format on Sunday in Augusta. The winner will face the either Grand Valley State University, which finished the first 36 holes in first place, or Ashland University for the GLIAC title later in the day.
