Cardinal trio shoots under par to pace second-place finish on day one of GLIAC

AUGUSTA, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's golf team opened play at the 2021 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championship Friday at Gull Lake in Augusta, Mich.

The Cardinals had a strong start to the tournament, shooting a 285 to sit alone in second place after 18 holes. Grand Valley State University put some early distance between itself and the field with a 271 to take first place.

Three Cardinals are tied for fifth place through the opening round, including Jared Lyons, Brendon Gouin, and Connor Jakacki each shooting a one-under 70. Brady Dice finished with a 75, followed by Gunnar Stein with a 76.

SVSU will look to close the gap with GVSU on day two Saturday at Gull Lake.
